The FID technology is the most reliable one to measure organic compounds as, when burning, these components produce ions which are detected by an electrode that is positioned above the flame. The magnitude of the generated current is related to the mass of carbon that was delivered to the detector. This signal can then be used for both the detection and quantification of the organic compounds present in the sample.
